“Field of Flags”- Litchfield County CT Church

The word “thanks” seems so shallow and empty when I think of the 4,801 U.S. Military personnel that have lost their lives in the Iraq War since its inception in March of 2003.  As of Dec. 01 this was the last count. During the same time period 32,223 military personnel have been wounded.  A vast majority of the injuries consist of mental illness, traumatic brain injuries, and amputees.  In addition suicides are at the highest rate all time that the military has ever experienced. I took this photograph because it’s hard to just drive by something like this without it stirring your heart. The bible says in John 15:13 “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”  Rest in peace brave souls, rest in peace. December 15, 2011 Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta declared the Iraq War officially over almost nine years after it started.  U.S. forces remain in country in lesser numbers to assist the Iraq people in their transition to a democratic society.
