The Saybrook Breakwater Lighthouse is located at the base of the Connecticut River where it meets Long Island Sound. Constructed in 1886 it has a cast iron outter shell and a brick interior lining. At 48′ in height it’s architecture is known as “spark plug” style.
The Lighthouse went to public auction and was purchase in September of 2015 for slightly less than $300,000.00. There are no good vantage points from land unless you are allowed access to the many private roads and residential communities that afford a view.
As usual, I chose not to trespass into these neighborhoods and was forced to momentarily stop my car on Rt. 146 and hastily trigger off some shots through my passenger window. I would estimate that the Lighthouse was about one mile off shore from my location. This area also had “no parking” signs posted throughout.
Some of my photo’s are intended to be artistic and some are simply documentary. This photograph falls into the documentary category. The picture is very static as I had little to work with.
