Founded in 1636 by Roger Williams the City of Providence, RI once known as “the beehive of industry” has shifted gears to become “the creative capitol”. This is due to the decline of manufacturing and the growth of education and arts. Providence is also home to (8) hospitals and (7) institutions of higher learning which includes Brown University. With a population of 178,000 it ranks as the 37th largest city in the nation. On a personal note I’ve always enjoyed working and visiting Providence. The City has a comfortable feeling. Although, on the one hand large, it still retains that “town” feel much in the way Boston does.
