Hammonasset State Park, Madison, CT

CT’s largest beach offers two miles of coastline for sunning or relaxing as well as a substantial camping area.  If you want to photograph the coast the best times to go are at sunrise or just before sunset.  Not only will the beach be less crowded but the skies are rich with colors. However my schedule rarely permits those hours so, for me, the best time to get unobstructed shots is during the winter.  I took these photographs on a cool, brisk, windy day in March.  There were no fishermen, no beach strollers and certainly no sunbathers.  I had run of the entire park.  A photographers paradise!  With a cloudy day above I was able to capture some nice skies.

  1. I came across your amazing photos of Hammonassett State Park. The Boardwalk is my favorite! I grew up in Madison and now live on the west coast. This photo brought back wonderful memories of my youth. Are these photos available for posting on social media sites? I noticed the copyright on the bottom of this blog page. I would love to share this photo with my friends. Thank you so much for displaying your incredible artwork!

    • Hi,

First let me apologize for taking so long to respond to you. I go through spells when I’m on my blog every day but conversely go through spells when I’m absent for months. So, long and short of it. I just saw your email. I’m sorry for the wait. YES, of course, go ahead and use any of those Hammonaassett State park photo’s from my website that you would like to post on your social media site. You do not have to reference my site just, obviously, don’t take credit for something you didn’t shoot (which I know you wouldn’t because you were kind enough to ask permission in the first place). I grew up in Wallingford and spent a fair amount of time at this beach over the years as well. We’re lucky to have it. Few people realize how peaceful and calming this park can be in the fall and winter when there is no one there. Sure it’s a tad chilly at times but very serene. Anyways, thanks again for contacting me. Your kind remarks are appreciated. Have a great day!

  2. Hi, I can’t find your name anywhere (not even on your about page) so I apologize for not addressing you by name!

Your images are GORGEOUS. I’d love to use them in a video I’m creating for Neighbor to Neighbor, a non-profit Madison charity. And of course I’d never take credit for shooting them myself!

I’m under the gun in terms of deadline, and since you’ve given the person above permission, if I don’t hear back, I hope it’ll be okay?

Thank you! You’re incredibly talented! These are gorgeous!

    Warmly,
    Katie Davis

    • Hi Katie,

I’m so sorry that it took me so long to respond to you. I’m very casual about my web site and just got around to seeing your post. I’m always anxious to work with folks like you. So I hope you did go ahead and use the images as your post suggested. If you credited my website that would have been great. I wish you the best.

      Jay
