From July 18th – July 26th this year Buttonwood Farms hold their annual fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish foundation. This is their 10th year holding this charity. During this week you’re able to stroll through winding paths of over (14) acres of sunflowers. Enjoying their beauty and taking photographs. For a $10.00 donation, (to benefit the charity), you’ll leave with a bouquet of sunflowers. Typically just a few day’s after the event they’ll let the cow’s into the fields to eat the sunflowers so try and get here during that week. The date may change from year to year so check their website first.
The farm also has a sizable ice cream stand which they boast is “farm fresh and the best available ice cream anywhere). Judging from the crowds I’ve got to believe it’s so.
The farm’s located in the Town of Griswold which is mostly farmland and wooded area’s. As I drove through miles and miles of quiet, serene countryside, almost out of no where, I came upon this bustling attraction. It was a pleasant surprise!
It’s like you just entered a small piece of heaven where smiles are the norm and happiness is the order of the day. The first thing I noticed is that car’s lined both sides of the street. There is also off street parking available.
Families, children, and seniors were everywhere! The parking lot fronting the ice cream stand was filled to capacity. There were loads of kids waiting to get on the tractor rides. Unsurprisingly the seven foot tall sunflowers were proudly at attention almost as if they knew the joy they were bringing the hoards of spectators that admired them daily.
Once you walk the path, through the field, to the far east side you’ll come upon small hill. This will allow you to look down at the fields and photograph them in their entirely. If you go next year don’t forget that there is another field just a stones through from the main field.
Buttonwood Farms has raised over 3/4 of a million dollars since beginning their fund raiser 10 years ago. I drove two hours to get here and, if you have any appreciation for beauty at all, you’ll want to do the same. I’ll be going back next year and hope to see you there. Please bring $10.00,, have a wonderful time, and help benefit the children at the Make-A-Wish program.
