This dairy bar is a big hit in Gales Ferry with the local residents and has been for years and years.
A handful of folks have written to advise me that this is still a thriving business and that the go karts (which are to the rear of the building), in particular, are a frequent source of enjoyment for many. I should note that I don’t live in this area and did not speak to anyone from the establishment directly.
These are the types of business’s that you want to keep around. They are iconic and, in many ways, a bit of Americana. If you live in the area consider stopping by and having some fun! You might want to call first to check the hours.

Although it looks abandoned, the carts are still running. No ice cream for sale though.
Wonderful photography … captures the ghosts of what was once and no longer. However , while the Ice Cream shop is long gone, the Go Karts are still in operation at Kartway, so it is not Abandoned. See Photos 114 and 115.
Thank you for that information Lawrence. The text has been changed to reflect your comments.
The owners didn’t walk away. The kart track is still open.
The ice cream bar and batting cages are closed yes. However Kartway is still open for go cart riding. Residents of Ledyard and Gakas Ferry still go every week. It may look abandoned and need a lot of freshening up but it is not abandoned.
Thank you for your comment. I will change the text to reflect it’s present status.
My first job. Everybody hung out at Kartway.
I love that place when I was a kid if I had the money I would reopen it
I can imagine. Seem’s like the kind of place that people would flock to.
I would love to buy it and bring it back
The owners still live in town and still operate the go karts in the back! Very sweet older couple… When they aren’t busy I often see them sharing lunch or dinner at the picnic table out back too!
Good to know. Thanks for your reply.
