South Farms – The White Barn
211 Higbie Rd., Morris CT

First let me start by saying is this not a beautiful barn and setting? Wow! The upkeep over the years has kept this barn in pristine condition.

Sam and Ruth Paletsky owned a cattle farm her from the 40’s thru the 70’s. I’ve seen a lot of farms in my travels and I even worked on one in high school and I’ve got to tell you if I was going to start a family and work the farm this would be the place I’d want to do it. This piece of property is so serene and beautiful, not to mention the layout of these lovely barns. I can only imagine the life that Sam and Ruth must have shared.

I had my barn list all laid out for Morris that morning and I had an asterik next to this address because I had seen a picture online and knew it would be a beauty. We got there on a Saturday in January and it was empty except for a couple of workers inside. Cheryl waited in the car, as usual, while I trooped my gear down to the field behind the barn. I got some nice shots but it wasn’t until we were driving away and pulled into a little parking area that we noticed you could see the entire farm layout from a distance. Wow again!

I set up the tripod and camera and was able to take this beautiful shot which pretty much says it all. Our intent is to return in the fall when the leaves are ablaze with reds and oranges, can’t wait.

The farm is still family owned as it’s been handed down generation to generation. Today it’s primary function is that of an event venue. As an old wedding photographer from 20-25 years ago I can tell you that this would make a gorgeous location for a wedding and reception. I’m sure they have no problem filling their dates for the wedding season.

As a farm and barn historian to some extent and a lover of barns in I’m so pleased to see that these buildings will live on and have been maintained so beautifully. If you’re planning a wedding or event this should be on your short list of facilities to visit.
